Hmmm...She's paying attention after all....

Here's this taken directly from the KINY Radio website:

NEW - Palin proposes $1.2 Billion energy relief program. Governor Palin is proposing a two pronged approach to providing Alaskans energy relief in a $1.2 Billion program that she'll propose to the Legislature to fund.

The program calls for grants to electric utilities and debit cards to Permanent Fund Dividend recipients for the next 12 months. The amount allocated for children’s benefits will accrue to the card of the sponsor on their PFD application. Money not used on the card one month will carry over to the next month. It is expected that the amount available to individuals through the card will be considered income by the IRS. The temporary Energy Debit Card can be used for purchases from Alaska energy vendors, such as heating oil distributors, natural gas utilities, electric utilities, gas stations and other retail fueling stations.

The governor says returning surplus funds through grants to the utilities will reduce in a 60 percent reduction for all rate payers. She says the benefit will flow to homeowners, renters, schools, government, and businesses.A review by the Department of Law indicates that there should be no federal income tax consequence since the grants act to offset the revenue collected by utilities.

In addition, there will be conservation incentives for the utilities. For every 1 percent reduction in 2008 kilowatt hour sales from 2007 sales, the state will make a year-end contribution for capital energy projects to the utility. "The state treasury is swelling, while family check books are evaporating," the Governor says. "The right thing to do is to return surplus monies to the resources owners through energy relief. "The grant to electric utilities is expected to be $475 million, while the Energy Debit Card totals are forecast to be $729 million. The Governor has proposed this energy relief plan for one year.

Holy Shinola batman, that's actually a relatively innovative concept. The cards could be used for electricity, heating fuel, gas, etc. I guess now the ball is in the legislature's court.

Did you notice that for some odd reason the comment portion of today's Vampire articles is unavailable?

Did you go to the empire site again...They had to eat sh*t for someone posting a bunch of bad info on a sex offender with the same name...That's why they pulled the comments section...Ouch!

Did you see that they also pulled comments on Lehauli's arrest article?

I saw the article about Rich Bailey this morning too. I noticed someone had misidentified him as black. The one in question is the weasley little white guy who used to work at Safeway and Home Depot.

So what about this: What do you think about the fact that the Empire allows users to post comments without verifying his/her identity? Basically anyone can say anything they want about other people, with no accountability. Couldn't the Empire be held responsible for libel since it's not moderating what is being *published* on its website? It just seems that whole place has become toxic. It's out of control and destructive, and no one seems to care or notice.

One last thing, in regards to Alaska Airlines. Why do you really think AA was opposed to the terminal expansion? Do you really think it was about the fear of increased rent? Or do you think it was because a bigger terminal would mean a second airline would have room to move in, and that would threaten AA's monopoly?

Makes ya wonder.

I did check it out. Funny, I saw that this morning and saw someone else post a comment on how they were talking about the wrong person then the original person apologized but it's funny the empire had to close their comments! There was sure a lot of mixed reaction to the Lehauli thing too. Glad to see JPD doing something for a change.

Bleeding, these are great points on all accounts...

I think the libel thing is the reason it was pulled...I don't care enough about the Lehauli thing, the only reason it's news is because he was a football star here.

As far as AA goes, f*ck them! They've priced out every bit of competition they've had since I was little...starting with Western Airlines, Wein Air, Mark Air, Delta, and can't remember if united was in there too...Then as soon as the competition is gone the rates go back up...The fact is Juneau being the capital made that airline what it is today...They have made sooo much money off the backs of Juneauites it makes me sick!

Your right conservo...props to the cops for a change!

All I can say is thanks CD for offering a forum where I don't have to listen to the artsy fartsy let's all just hug and it will be better bunch of b.s.

I am so sick of AA ruling the roost. If we were any other airport with competition this wouldn't be an issue. Christ it costs $200 to send my kid from San Fran to Boston but $800 to send them from Juneau, the $600 is the Juneau to Seattle portion bought 21days in advance! Hello, time for change folks.

This sounds like a friggin' Onion article. Could it really be true? Will it be about as helpful as the Katrina debit cards? I'm sure she plans to give one to EVERY PFD holder, continuing to ignore that there is a disaster going on here. If she gives everyone in Anchorage the same help she gives us, is she really helping us, or just the utilities we threaten to boycott?

The truth of the matter is that Juneau will not support another airline. People are so mileage prone that they won't fly anyone else. I worked for Markair when they came to Juneau. Because of them AS was forced to lower their prices but the people of JNU continued to fly AS and not support the competition.
Alaska Air should be forced to change their name to Arizona Air. The main workforce works there. NOT in Alaska.

Well Conservo...I am glad we have a forum not to listen to the artsy fartsy but I do welcome them if they can stand common sense...Obviously Bobstillbobb couldn't and that's ok...He probably thinks were a bunch of gun toting Rush Limbaugh fanatics(I'm not). My feeling is most of the artsy fartsy crowd will never agree with us...

Your absolutley right heartless...AK Air sucks the big one...All though Neil Bergt probably wasn't the right business man to try and tackle AA...

I'm about to launch a bitter battle with SEACC, I'm just gathering some ammo and then we'll start getting aggressive with them. I've even fired off a few letters to their "top dogs" to give them a chance to respond...Stay tuned, it might not be till next week...

Steve, not sure what your issue is? I don't care if we all get some relief and it's not Juneau specific. I can understand her not wanting to deal with our whiny liberal Juneau legislative "team."

She knows those pathetic f*cks support SEACC and their Sierra Club trust funders. She probably dry heaves just being in the same room as Doll, Kertula, and the other one...I know I would...

As everyone knows we've been awash in corporate abuse in regards to AEL&P in what is a clear example of negligence. In many parts of our nation the power supply is public utility not a private enterprise. It's time for Alaskans and the people of Juneau to take a step back and realize this is not just so in Juneau but across our nation.

In politics corporate lobbyists have immense influence in both parties both the Democrats and Republicans. For the first time in who knows how long the Democrats have out raised the Republicans in terms of corporate donors, Obama himself is in the hands of the nuclear power giant Exelon. We must look under the surface of his thin skin of populism and realize he is another corporate Democrat in the garb of populism.

With corporate abuse running rampant in Juneau we must look to a figure who long has held the rights of the consumer over that of the corporation. Ralph Nader has long stood up for consumer rights and the environment. AEL&P would not be able to act as they will with very little over sight if we did not have politicians in the hands of corporate boards and executives. In light of the AEL&P scandal we must throw our support behind someone who will fight for our rights and not let private interests run our necessities.
